| Abstract | Gas turbine engine performance is affected by the absolute level of inlet pressure and airflow quality. Engine test cells, especially those which are capable of adjusting these inlet conditions to simulate altitude and forward speed, often introduce steady state flow distortion at the engine inlet. As part of a study in support of the AGARD Uniform Engine Testing Program, various methods of calculating an average inlet pressure from multi-point pressure measurements were compared. Equal area weighting of pressures outside of the boundary layer formed the basis for comparison. Alternate methods are presented which incorporate boundary layer measurements into the calculation of overall average pressure. Differences from the basic method were at most -0.07%. Another method, employing only the probes in the inviscid flow area, altered average pressure by up to +1% from the basic method. This pressure variation could alter engine performance parameters from +0.07% to -1.02%. |
