Abstract | This paper describes a set of dedicated seakeeping experiments carried out in IMD's Offshore Engineering Basin on a 1:5.88 scale fishing vessel for the purpose of acquiring data to validate numerical models currently under development at MUN and DalTech. Particular emphasis in the experiments was placed on ensuring that numerical simulations could be compared to the experimental results with a minimum of uncertainty in the conditions of the model and its dynamics. In this paper, the results of the experiments were compared to those of a time domain simulation code (MOTSIM) used in conjunction with a 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver (FLOW3D) under development at MUN. |
