Abstract
This paper reports on the reproduction of ice sheets, achieved by serially growing them on a common seed from a melt of a desired composition. This was done with single crystals, polycrystalline columnar ice and mosaics composed of welded square-shaped crystals of various orientations. The use of welded crystal platelets as a seeding agent provides a means to study growth competition along boundaries of which all five degrees of freedom are defined at the onset of growth.
