| Abstract | Rolls-Royce of Canada Ltd. have set up the No. 2 Test Bed at their Montreal plant to calibrate overhauled Westinghouse J-34 engines for Royal Canadian Navy “Banshee” aircraft. Before putting the bed into service, it was considered essential that all instrumentation should be calibrated. This included the bellmouth air-intake to which the engine is coupled and which serves as a measuring device for the engine airflow.
An engine was therefore run at various conditions, and measurements were made to enable the airflow to be calculated by two standard methods, as well as by the system which will be employed in routine engine testing. The results have been calculated, and confirm the accuracy of the proposed routine method. |
