Abstract
Mechanical properties of thermoplastics are very dependent upon the degree of orientation of their molecular chains. This has been widely recognized and used in solid-state extrusion, the production of high performance fibers, and more recently by the commercial development of biaxially oriented sheet materials which offers a tremendous increase in tensile strength and modulus over the ordinary extruded material.
